Need a pet sitter?

Cassie and Lina are the girls for the task…
as long as Gus the talking cat can keep out of trouble.

Introducing a hilarious series for emerging readers age 5-9

Meet the pet sitters

Lina

Lina has a different animal t-shirt for every day of the week. Living next door to Gus the cat and down the street from her best friend Cassie means its easy to pet sit together. Lina will do her best to make sure everyone stays out of trouble… even Gus.

Gus

He might look like the grumpiest cat on the block, but if you give him a scratch behind the ears and call him ‘adorable’ he’ll be your friend for life. Gus loves to complain when he thinks he’s not getting enough attention. He might make a fuss, but he always saves the day.

Cassie

Cassie loves to make things look ‘purrrrfect’. She dances and twirls, and she’ll decorate anything that will stay still long enough. As Lina’s best friend and a Pet Sitter, Cassie’s ‘ready for anything’… even when things don’t go to plan.

“It's hard to find books for emerging readers (5-8) and this is a fun book to read together.”

Train Trouble

Two pet sitters. One love-sick cat. What could possibly go wrong?

Cassie and Lina can't wait to pet sit two adorable mice at the Model Train Show. But Gus the talking cat is acting weird and the mice are mysteriously multiplying!

Can the Pet Sitters find out what's happening? Or will there be chaos at the Train Show and just too many mice?

Have you read all the Pet Sitters?

Gus Makes A Fuss

Best friends Cassie and Lina would love to take a pet to the Pet Parade but it's not possible... until they're asked to pet sit Gus the cat next door. The girls might be 'ready for anything' but Gus isn't quite the cat they were expecting.

Purple Panic

Princess Gina’s owner is very fussy but Cassie and Lina think they’ll be able to care for her guinea pig just fine… until Gus runs off with the pet sitting instructions and Princess Gina can’t even be seen!

Tony Takes Off

‘No chaos! And no emergencies!’ says Mum when Cassie and Lina pet sit again. But Tony the miniature pony isn't your average pet… And when Tony disappears from the paddock with Lina's little brother, someone's going to have to fly to the rescue.

Glitter Jitters

Cassie and Lina think Bella the bearded dragon is SO beautiful. Gus is not so sure, and he’s determined to prove it…
But no one’s expecting Bella to have some seriously sparkly allergies. Now everyone’s got the glitter jitters, especially Gus!

Educators love Pet Sitters

I enjoyed reading 'Gus makes a fuss' and am pleased to see it is a series.

This chapter book will appeal to our confident readers in Year 2, while being an accessible and interesting read for Years 3 & 4 who might lack confidence in reading.

I was particularly encouraged to see the vocabulary used is designed to increase our readers use of good language.

— Margaret Aitchison, Librarian

Our pre-K class of 4 and 5 year olds loved the story. They didn't want me to stop reading it.

One child said, “I liked the cat cause he could talk”. Another one said, “I liked the cat because Gus was funny with the clothes” (when the girls 'decorated' him).

The story had the right amount of humour in it to keep the children's attention. It also gave us the chance to discuss ideas about responsibility and the how the different characters may have felt at varying points in the story.

‘My class is looking forward to the next book in the series. I think Gus may be a new favourite literary character!

— Maya Jackson, Early childhood educator

Even in this high-tech age, pets, and animals of all kinds, are still so important to many of the students I teach. They are always keen to tell you about their cats, dogs, lambs, snails or birds and children know just how smart animals can be.

I love the community feel of this story. The various and interesting settings, many of them outdoors, refreshingly take us far away from any screens! I look forward to following more adventures of the Pet Sitters."
